Beaded Kenyan Chairs

Beaded Kenyan Chairs

This pair of vintage chairs has been completely reupholstered using old-world techniques and environmentally conscious materials. The original wood finish is painted creamy white.

19"deep, 24"wide, 34"high

The chairbacks feature hand-beading by the women of the Samburu tribe in Kiltamany village, Kenya.

While visiting Kiltamany village, Andrea learned that the Samburu women earn money to send their children to school through their beadwork.

"I loved the excitement and energy that came from these colors," Andrea said.  "I knew I wanted to work with these women to create part of their culture on one of my chairs."

Facebook tells the story of Andrea's design collaboration with the Samburu women in this video.

The buyer will receive a photo book of the Samburu tribe in their village in Kenya which includes photos of the woman actually beading the fabric for the chairs.

Wild Chairy will donate the proceeds of one of the chairs to the school in Kiltamany to further the education of women in Kenya.
